Lastly, you need some kind of college education to get you through Human Resources, Recruiters or these ridiculous resume scanning software systems from ADP, Workday, ZipRecruiter, etc. It impacts your ranking and can be a headache if you don't have at least an Associate's Degree for promotions and some Mid-Level to Senior Level Engineering positions and is a bare minimum to be an IT Manager, Datacenter Manager or DevOps Manager.

A community college anywhere in the US is dirt cheap ($80-130 per credit hour). Get your associate's degree. If you pick an online college and it's going to cost you more than $30k to graduate for a Bachelor's degree, don't do it. Get your Associate's degree from a community college on the cheap, transfer your credits to a US Department of Education Regionally Accredited Bachelor's Degree granting college and finish up. There are a ton of college's out there. Stay away from the diploma mills. If they advertise all over the place, it's because their sole purpose is making money, not educating students. Don't bother.

If you have your Bachelor's or even your Master's or if your really a go-getter, your Ph.D., you need hands-on. There is nothing more irritating than a direct line IT Manager with a bunch of college degree's that has no clue about the technology in use for team's their managing.
